RENT No Day But Today! Join Winters Lane as we proudly present one of our most important productions to date--the Maryland/DC premiere of Jonathan Larson's Tony Award and Pulitzer-prize winning musical Rent. Based loosely on Puccini's opera La Bohème. It follows a year in the lives of seven friends living the disappearing Bohemian lifestyle in New York's East Village while exploring the themes of life, art, and love in the face of death. AIDS and both its physical and emotional complications pervade the lives of singer/songwriter Roger, exotic dancer Mimi, Tom, and his partner Angel. Along with Mark, an aspiring filmmaker, flakey performance artist Maureen and her partner Joanne, they are confronted with former friend and current landlord Benjamin, who has sold out his Bohemian ideals in exchange for a hefty income. Rent, with it's now classic rock score and contemporary worldly themes, became the voice of a Broadway generation. Featuring songs such as "Light My Candle", "Today 4 U", "Out Tonight", "La Vie Boheme", "Take Me or Leave Me", "I'll Cover You", and the now classic "Seasons of Love", Rent has become a modern day anthem emphasizing the importance of living in this world in the face of dying from this dreadful disease.
